Here's a couple of really good resources for learning moves.
    MCP's site
    mcp.tepookatoys.com/index.php

    Tutorials on Home of Poi
    www.homeofpoi.com/lessons_a...taff-4_0_0

There's also more that can be found on youtube with some searching..

I searched for weeks and the best I found were Meg's. Most of the others were too dark, too fast, didn't repeat the moves, and didn't break them down. As far as I'm concerned, MCP was far and away the best out there. I tell everyone who asks. i was floored when I found out a few weeks after bookmaking all her pages that she went to BM, was on Tribe, and would be one of the instructors at Firedrums.

I also like to highlight this, "I didn't really like having a PayPal donate button on this site, cos it felt so cheesey, nor have I given in to Google AdWords, so if you maybe liked my free tutorials, learnt a lot and wanted to give something back, you could consider purchasing the DVD... And you get something for your money as well!" manipulation.firestaff.net/buyo....html

Anyone who's been to Firedrums and seen her and taken her workshops can tell you she's just the same in person. I can't recommend her highly enough.

I agree with Maria, MCP is tops when it comes to contact staff. Her DVD is phenomenal, but we should also mention the Contact Arts DVD that has as many great tutorials and instructors as Megs. Here is the trailer for it: www.youtube.com/watch

If you really want to get good fast, buy both DVDs, and support the instructors out there who are trying to expand the artform.

          doing both, thank you.

Also working with a brilliant contact staff teacher who I hope to assist in getting a video out.

The man is amazing, Clayton Allred.

There are so many new, awesome contact spinners out there it makes my head spin. It feels like a few years ago you could count the good contact staffers on one hand, now they're coming out of the woodwork and their skills would make Meast, Noel, or MCP raise their eyebrows...

Nick is right, by all means, yes definitely get more than one DVD and at least one instructor in person. The DVDs will give you the basics and start you toward the more complex moves while you practice. The personal instructor can see what you're doing wrong (and right) to make your practice more productive and If he's any good, he'll give you ideas to make your spinning style your own.

… I’d just make sure one of the DVDs was Meg’s. :-)

                Nick and Mdjg:

Great advice, all look into all of it, and as you say, get the practice down to the point, that my own spirit will generate a unique twist of something that will move and inspire an audiance.

I didnt look great at my first buringman in 99, I spent 8 years away raising kids, but I want to try, and with time I will improve.

Beyond a single teacher and collection of dvds/videos, I recommend getting into a community that you can learn from.

What part of the world are you in? There's a good chance there are other spinners close at hand!

      Dio:

You got it, burningman has always been about service to me, its the richest experience I can get from partipating.

So I am working on contacting locals burners here in Utah, went to their regional event and it rocked! Reminded me of my days with sister at 4th juplaya pre burn party, or up in Willitts, California at Camp N Suns with some amazing burningman insiders. My brother and sister made the introductions, and I just showed up and looked where I could be of service. I have always been an outsider, but if you show up for community, everything works out nice!

Utah Fire Conclave, excellent talent, got some great video shots of them, they will be performing at burningman this year.

I have some video on my facebook account
